Anna Tabbush: Biog

Anna Tabbush is one of the hottest new British folk singer-songwriters on the scene. Her honest lyrics and haunting melodies combine to create a unique, heart-breaking sound.

From an early age Tabbush was inspired by great songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Tracey Chapman and Bjork. At 16 she was lucky enough to meet her biggest heroine, Tori Amos in a Surrey recording studio. It was this meeting that gave Anna the courage to bring her songs to the public.

Anna's performing career in folk bands has been a busy one, playing fiddle with Meridian and The Climax Ceilidh Band as well as singing close harmony with The Tabbush Sisters. But her true vocation as a singer songwriter has only taken flight in the last two or so years.

In May 2005 Tabbush released her debut solo album, Waiting in the Wings which received a stream of glowing reviews from magazines such as fRoots, Musician Magazine and Taplas. The album illustrates Tabbush's crossover from traditional folk to original material through all phases in-between.

Anna Tabbush’s band, the Odd Socks are: Guitarist and vocalist, Nick Sowden and cellist Rachel Drayson.

Nick, who recorded and produced “Waiting in the Wings”, has his roots in Rock music having sung and played electric guitar in previous outfits. He plays the largest part in arranging Anna's songs, adding rhythm with his solid acoustic guitar playing and soft vocal harmonies.

Rachel Drayson is one of the best and loveliest cellists in the country. She has played and sessioned for many bands and songwriters; her most recent radio 1 airplay was with Atlantic Records band Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. Rachel brings simply beautiful cello playing to the Odd Socks’ sound.
